Saturday 25th May – walk **** Levington circuit - sunny and warm:)
It was supposed to be wall to wall sunshine so was hoping to go on a bike
ride but it was disappointingly overcast! So relaxing day at home including
ordering a new GW-60 (gps watch) to replace a faulty one. After lunch in
the garden we had a walk along Felixstowe prom but it was sadly very busy
and not much fun. So, when we got home, we made a flask defrosted some
scones and headed to Levington marina. Andy, my windsurfing mate, had said
he might be there foiling this afternoon but he wasn’t there. We parked
a little way away from the marina with top River Orwell views and had a
pleasant hour watching the boat action, reading and having the yummy scones
before setting off on a walk along the river bank to Levington Creek with
my big lens on my camera. I started off with a couple of Oyster Catchers on
two posts, followed by Shell ducks, geese and an egret. It was now sunny
and warm with not many people about:) We walked round the creek, then
through the reed beds spotting a Reed Bunting but sadly the big herd of
deer were not by their usual tree in the meadow. Then six deer came out of
the reeds for a munch on the grass just after we saw a Marsh Harrier
catching its tea! There were loads of birds singing in the reeds and they
were difficult to spot but we saw a few :) All we had to do then was walk
the mile or so back to the van after an enjoyable amble in the beautiful
Suffolk countryside. Tomorrow is still looking promising for a windsurf
with the River Stour probably being the destination as we don’t fancy a
trip to Mersea Island on a Bank Holiday weekend!
